Safety First Racing (SFR) was started by former professional racer/police officer Kevin Hanson in 2002 and is now a Suzuki factory supported racing team. The team has two riders, Bobby Fong and Scotty Ryan. Both riders are experiencing success in their early careers and are looking to continue that success as they become more experienced veterans.
 

Through out Kevin’s career as an officer he noticed numerous preventable injuries to kids and decided to found the “Safety First” kids program. Kevin and his team visit many schools, youth groups, YMCA’s and other community events around the country to help educate and promote the importance of wearing a helmet and bicycle safety. 
 

Kevin and his team attempt to make presentations at all of there stops on the AMA Superbike racing schedule and because of this they have reached over 10,000 children in the 7-12 year old range, giving each one a free bicycle helmet.
 

Dr. David Boll has been the team’s doctor since the 2005 season. He is the only doctor on the AMA Superbike series that travels the entire seven month season. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa. When he is not traveling with the Safety First Racing team he resides in Appleton, Wisconsin where he works along side three other doctors focusing mainly on athletic rehabilitation. 

 

Dr. Boll’s began using Kinesio® Tex Tape for fascia muscle injuries and strains, but through experimentation he realized that the tape is very helpful for arm pump. Many riders get what they call arm pump because the fascia muscle fails to expand with the muscle as it is continuously worked. This problem is often fixed by having surgery on the problem area, but Dr. Boll has found that taping the riders forearm muscles for support is either preventing arm pump all together or reducing it for his riders.
